Designers equipments

Designers  equipments
·         Shears:- For cutting the material use medium weight shears, about 8  inch in length. Special pinking shears may be  used for underarm and shoulder seam edges when  cutting out a garment in velveteen corduroy, woolen or heavy silk materials. This automatically  finishes the seam edges.
·         Scissors:- For clipping threads, slashing material for buttonholes, etc , use small pointed scissors. The shears and scissors should be good steel and kept sharpened.
·         Emery bag :- Remove rust  from needle by passing it through  an emery bag. Do not leave the needle sticking in the emery bag as the powder in the bag attracts moisture and may cause  the needle to rust.
·         Thimble:-  The thimble should be of good white metal or celluloid and should fit comfortably not too tight.
·          Tape :- The tape measure should be 60  inch long and of good quality so that it will not shrink or stretch. The yardstick is used for marking long straight lines and for measuring an even hemline
·         Rulers:-   The 6  inch or 12  inch ruler is handy for measuring width of hem tucks etc.
·         Tracing wheel:- The tracing wheel may be used in place of tailors tacks when marking lines through pattern on plain cotton ,linens or heavy silks, always run wheel forward. Do not trace on a good table as it will leave marks use a tracing board.
·         Tailor chalk:-  The tailor’s chalk may be used for marking tucks pleats hems etc. Use light chalk on dark material and vice versa.
·         Cutting table:- It should be big enough to accommodate  sufficient cloth. . It should be approximately 50 inches X 30 inches.  It should be covered with a tight cloth to get a proper grip of the garment.
·         Tailors square :-It  comes in plastic as well as wooden material. It has two arms. One arm measures about 12  inch and the other measures about 24  inch.
·         Tailors curve:-  It also comes in plastic as well as wooden materials. It  comes in many different sizes.  It is used to draw curved lines in the diagram.
·         Brush:- It is the brush with soft bristles. It is used to rub marking of the chalk on the garment.
·         Dressmakers Pin:-  These are very narrow pins. Don’t use the regular pins as they may make hole in the cloth. Pins are very helpful for a designer while taking trials and while working on a drape form.
·         Hangers :- They come in different shapes and sizes. They are used to hang the garments avoiding the garments from wrinkling.
·         Dummy:- Dummy is the  artificial structure of the male or female body.. It comes in variety of sizes or in adjustable form. It help the designer to construct perfect patterns.
  • Dress form :- It is a type of dummy used for hanging dresses. It is a very presentable way of exhibiting the designs
  • Measurment chart:- The designer should have a measurment  chart containing the basic measurements of a human body. So that even if he has a chest measurment and height he can plot the perfect pattern with the help of this measurment chart.
  • Iron:- Iron should  not be too light. Before ironing any cloth always move the iron an a rough cloth atleast twice to avoid accidently burning of the cloth.
  • Ironing table:- There should be a separate table for ironing clothes .Ironing board can also do the work in a small unit.
  • Hand block:- It is the wooden block. It is moved over the cloth after ironing  to avoid any type of iron shine in the material and get a perfect finish.
  • Sewing machine:- Without a proper sewing machine a perfect designer is like a handicapped person. The sewing machine should be very perfect and should be properly taken care of.
  • Needles and thread:- Needles are required  by tailors during stitching and by a designer during trial. While trial the designer should always have a needle in hand to alter  the dress on body.
