MANUFACTURED OR MAN MADE FABRICS
Man-made fabrics are made of filaments extruded as liquid and
formed into various fibers. As the fibers are made from liquid they are colored before they are converted into filament.
Due to this reason it’s very difficult to dye after the fiber is woven into a
fabric.
Acrylic :- It is a lightweight, soft, springy and luxurious fabric. This
fabric is washable, dries very quickly and draws moisture away from the body.
It does not absorb heat.
Modacrylic is a fabric derived from acrylic and is more flame resistant
than acrylic.
Acetate:- acetate is a man made wrinkle free fabric. Its fibers are not so strong but can be extruded into fibers of different diameters and
woven in to luxurious fabrics. Acetate fibers do not shrink. They also do not
absorb moisture and dry very fast.
Tri acetate:- It is a man made fabric derived from acetate. It is easier
to take care of its fabric. Care should be taken with perfumes , nail remover,
alcohol, nail polish etc as these substances may melt acetate and triacetate
fibers.
Latex:- It is a manmade fabric
derived from latex. It has a special elastic property. It is used other fibers
to create fabrics such as spandex etc. Latex loses its elasticity after
repeated washing and drying
Spandex:- It is a derivative of latex. It is more resistant to washing
perspiration and heat than latex. It has a very good elastic property. It is
used in foundation garments and hosiery.
Polyester :- Polyester is another strong manmade fiber. It is wrinkle free
and melts at a medium temperature, So strong ironing should be avoided.
Polyester is used in fiberfill in pillows etc. Blends of polyester gives cotton a permanent press
property. It is also used in making blouses.
Nylon:- Nylon is one of the most used fabrics in our day-to-day life. It
is used in hosiery items, making parachutes, tiers etc. Nylon is used for
making nets used for bridal veils etc. Nylon is a strong fiber. It is elastic,
responsive to heat setting resistant. Nylon does not absorb moisture and dries
very quickly. Perspiration and chemicals does not weaken its fibers nor dirt clings to its fibers. It should not
be strongly ironed as it melts at high temperature
Rayon: - Rayon is also a strong man made fiber. It is a good absorbent
and has many properties of natural fibers. It is formed from cellulose. It does
not melt but burns at high temperature. Rayon stretches when wet and shrinks
when washed. It wrinkles very easily. Rayon drapes well and has a smooth and
bulky surface.
Viscose Rayon ( Fibranne ):- It is a type of wrinkle free rayon. Viscose
rayon can be blended with other fibers into heavy or light materials.
